As you know our Highline promise is to know every student by name, strength and need and it can be more challenging to do so in distance learning. McMicken Heights, along with all other Highline schools, will begin individual check-ins with students beginning next week. Students will be meeting with their classroom teacher or another trusted adult within the building such as a specialist, office staff, counselor or even the principal. The purpose of the time is to help students feel connected and supported, so the focus will be on Social Emotional Learning. Here is a sample of what the time might look like:
Mood Meter check-in
Sharing successes and challenges of the week
Engage in an interactive activity
Please expect a call and/or email from the staff member who will be checking in with your student to schedule the time and possibly a zoom link for this meeting. Most check-ins will occur between 3:00 - 3:30 but there may be some exceptions. Lastly, a family member is welcome to join the first check-in if available.
