Family Update for May 1

Family Update for May 1

Meal Site Locations

As a reminder, we are distributing meals for multiple days at our meal sites. Please bring a bag to fit breakfasts and lunches for multiple days. Meals are free to all Highline Public Schools students and children 18 years or younger. See a list of meal site locations, days and times on our website. Please note the pickup time at Parkside Elementary has changed, starting May 4, to 11:30 a.m - 12:00 p.m.

Learning Supply Kits

A limited number of learning supply kits will be available at meal sites next week. The kits include crayons, glue sticks, pencils and sharpener, scissors, composition notebook, and pens. We will provide one per student in grades PreK-5, while supplies last.

Elementary Grading

Students in grades K-5 will not be given a grade at the end of the year. Instead, teachers will make comments on a report card regarding the student's engagement, progress and overall ability to understand content and standards presented during the distance learning time. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Services for Students with Disabilities

We are committed to providing distance learning based on student strengths and needs. Distance learning opportunities for students with special needs are aligned to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). We will continue to make adjustments as needed to support your student. To learn more about the services and communication you can expect, please visit our website.

Give Feedback on Distance Learning

The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) is tracking feedback on distance learning in school districts across our state. Please take a brief survey to help us learn how what is going well and where we need to improve. The CEE Survey tracks changes over time, so you can complete the survey once per week.

Video Contest for High School Students

Students, share your hopes and dreams for the future in the #PlanYourPath video contest. Winners will receive a $500 scholarship and a $100 gift card for the teacher of their choice.

COVID-19 Testing

Public Health-Seattle & King County, U.W. Medicine, Seattle Children’s and other partners have joined forces to track the spread of Coronavirus. You can volunteer for testing. This study will help Public Health make the best possible data-driven decisions to protect our community. For more information, including why people who are not sick are being tested, visit scanpublichealth.org

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8

Just a reminder that next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week.
